It's the Little Things

{Cleaned out my cosmetics drawer and threw out old lipsticks/lipglosses that I don't use anymore but these pretty colors managed to survived the clean-out.}

{I made a coffee frappe following this recipe and even though it didn't turn out quite the same as the recipe's picture it tasted delicious.}

Tomboy with a Twist

Shirt Target. Pants J.Crew. Shoes Jessica Simpson. Necklace Banana Republic. Lipstick Russian Red by MAC. Nail color Essie Go Overboard

I've been wanting to do a tomboy/masculine outfit for a while now and I finally got around to it. I added the red lip to add a dash of femininity to this otherwise "no fuss" outfit. This gray t-shirt is my new love! It's from Target and costs only $8 and the fabric is perfect, not to tight and not too loose. I bought one in gray and one in white and they have been on constant rotation ever since.

Thrifting 101

Thrifting is truly an inexpensive way to score classic staples for your closet. I'm no professional thrifter by any means but it has become a norm for me to pop into a thrift store once in a while and along the way I've gathered a few tips that may help you if your new to "thrifting".

1. Visit thrift stores in the metro area of town. This will almost gurantee that you'll find at least one good piece of clothing since metro area's have more people, more diversity, and a larger population, making their selection more varied than a store in the 'burbs.

2. Be open to trying bigger sizes. I can attest to how difficult it can be to find small sizes in thrift stores (I am a size three in jeans, skirts, and pants and a small in blouses/shirts). What I do now is look for pieces that I like or that draw my attention then I try them on no matter the size because many times the clothes were measured by different standards than what we are used to in our common shopping stores (i.e. Zara, H&M, Forever 21, etc.) Also even though an item may fit a bit large you can make it work by styling it "a la Rachel Zoe" and of course there's always the option of getting it altered.

3. Don't forget the delicate cycle on your washing machine. Personally, I prefer to get my thrifted items dry cleaned whenever possible, since I usually score skirts made from silk and other delicate fabrics, but when I'm in a hurry to wear it or just don't want to spend the extra money I wash my clothes on the delicate cycle and it gets the job done. It cleans the item without abusing the fabric too much.

Do you have any advice you've picked up while thrifting?

Something Borrowed

shirt: F21, jeans: Zara (similar here), belt: Target, Shoes: BCBG

Packing your entire weekend bag only to realize you forgot it at home when you get to your destination is definitely a travel fail and that's exactly what happened to me this past weekend. I was a little upset not having everything I wanted but thankfully I was able to get this outfit together with the help of my family. The shirt was borrowed from my sister-in-law and the shoes where borrowed from my mom. In order to switch things up a bit I used my animal print make-up bag as a clutch. Thanks to their help it ended up being a relaxing and fantastic weekend spent indoors playing board games, cooking and a few outings.

Inspiration: Miami bloggers

geometric printed palazzo pants with a white tank top on Amanda

Even though Fall is quickly approaching and fashion magazines, blogs, and stores are already showcasing their Fall collections, I want and intend to fully savour every moment left of the Summer. I have to admit cold weather has it's perks, like being able to wear gorgeous boots, fluffy scarves and warm coats, the truth is sometimes the cold weather in the morning, frozen windows and allergy causing heaters can really outway the fashion con's.

One of the best parts about living in Miami is being able to enjoy Summer-type weather  year-round. So I figured who better than some fabulous Miami-bloggers to inspire us to enjoy whatever is left of our Summer wardrobes before (those living in the north) have to pack it up and store it away.

Vanity Edition

One of my all time favorite places in our house to be at is my vanity. This is where all my "girly" tools are stored (e.g. make-up, nail polishes, perfume, jewelry, make-up brushes) and the one place in our house that is just for me. I spend a lot of time here getting ready, doing my make-up, hair and nails so that's why I decided to personalize it and truly make it my own with a couple of my favorite things. I usually have a candle burning, my latest magazines and pictures.

Jewelry storage (it's actually a serving tray but works great as a jewelry storage tray).

I keep my make-up brushes stored in these wine and champagne glasses. The wine glass stores brushes that I use for eye make-up including eyebrows and the champagne glass holds brushes for the face such as blush and foundation brushes.

This is truly the best part of my vanity: this huge drawer that stores my ever growing nail polish collection, make-up collection, hair blow-dryer, flat iron and all my other tricks of the trade to help me get dolled up!

Stripes & Pleats

shirt: J.Crew, skirt: Dress Up boutique, shoes: Seychelle's, earrings: old J.Crew

Quite a few things have occurred in the last week that  I want to share with you guys but first things first I hope you all had a fantastic weekend. Ok so here it goes: 1.) I lost my camera! (Which is why I wasn't able to post last week, I think I might have left it in Miami but now I can't remember, I have the worst memory but either way - my apologies.) and 2.) As you can see I cut my hair! I decided I wanted a change after I don't even know how many years with the same ol' long hair. Initially I wanted to go shorter but I'll wait till this length sinks in until I go shorter.

I wore this outfit yesterday, first I was going to wear it with a gray t-shirt, then I tried the skirt with a chambray shirt but I ended up with this. Oh..and I can't forget to send a special shout-out to my sis-in-law who not only let me borrow her amazing camera but was also my director/photographer. I think we got something going here ;-)

A Special Day: Two-year Anniversary

my dress

Today I celebrate one of the most important days of the year, my wedding anniversary to my love and best friend. I still can't believe it's already been two years since we got married - time has definitely flown by. There is no better feeling than knowing you are living out your journey next to the most amazing man. I am truly blessed.

So here are a few snapshots from our "big day". It was so hard enough choosing only a few pictures to but looking through all of the pictures took me back to that day and I got a little sentimental. If you are getting married anytime soon my best advice would me to enjoy and indulge ever single moment because the day goes by in a heartbeat.

After a weekend of not doing any shopping I figured kicking off the week with a nice wish-list would help with my current "Fall"  cravings. These are accessories for a little updating around the house and my Fall wardrobe.

My favorite item is the rhinestone cuff's - I could do so much with those, they're so cute and super affordable. Oh and the glass boxes are amazing, they can be used anywhere especially for storing jewelry.

Cheer's to the Weekend

Here's to the weekend! I am so ready to unwind and enjoy these next couple of days, hope you guys are able to do the same. I'm on a mission to not shop - AT ALL, so I'll have to keep busy doing other things and avoid temptation. My husband will be proud, ha!

With that in mind my weekend will probably consist of:

  • a movie night with my hubby
  • catching up on some reading
  • trying this yummy recipe
